doing the right thing all the time will get you nowhere you deserve better acting selfless others in mind won't be fair on you 'cause they don't care about you they're always asking of your time you've got to show that you're not a pushover never really been the selfish kind someone told me it's a bad thing sometimes the right thing by you is not the best thing to do you'll be kept from your true desires the activities that keep you from losing your mind doing what you feel feel's out of line it's quite difficult to act with yourself in mind

you feel like you've lost your way distractied by so many different goals you don't know how you got started or what it's taken to get so far we're reminded of yesterday but the details escape when you're looking the other way you'll often forget what to work on or what it's taken to get so far i wouldn't say i mean it if i knew where i was going i'd try to help you the kitchen will take you away from the work you didn't finish yesterday to balance a frypan or a kettle when the heat's been on too high you can't wait for it to settle petal i wouldn't say i mean it if i knew where i was going i'd try to be with you if i knew where i was going i'd try to help you if i knew where i was going i'd invite

In The End 02:03
we can make jokes about the sun and forgive the harm we've done when the end will come the end will come sooner than we know and we'll be forced to choose who can stay and who must go in the end i know that you're quite aware a change is coming so look around no sense in being scared so we can make jokes about the sun and forgive the harm we've done when the end will come the end will come sooner than we know and we'll be forced to choose who can stay and who must go in the end in the end in the end

about

Girlatones are back with more piano, more guitars and more indie-pop anthems!

Hot on the heels of the release of their second LP Horn If You’re Honky, Melbourne four-piece Girlatones are set to bring you their new EP 'Short & Sweet'. Here, Girlatones have a crack at home-spun hi-production standards whilst maintaining the sense of freedom and spontaneity of a band playing together in a room. Singer-instrumentalist Jesse Williams’ classic songwriting is on display throughout four songs packed with light, shade, and the usual sense of humour.

Short & Sweet was recorded at Williams’ home studio in late 2019, initially intended to be one half of an album. Due to the circumstance of 2020 and the band not being able to play together it was decided to finish the songs for a shorter release. The EP showcases fuller arrangements, with piano centre stage, layered acoustics, 12-string guitar jangle and vocal harmonies.

'Remember The Future' speaks to the contrast between generations, when imagining the future in the wake of an impending environmental catastrophe. Underlying the contemplative lyrics is a sense of optimism carried by an energetic piano boogie and boppin' rhythm section. The repeated final phrase “remember the future” is a call to take action and protect what we don’t want to lose.

'Doing The Right Thing' is a turbo-charged pop song propelled by frantic drumming, brisk chord changes and harmonies all the way through. The song is tongue-in-cheek look at the pros and cons of being a selfless person.

'
I’d Invite You' shares a similar melancholia introduced to the band’s sound with ‘Get To The End’ (Horn If You’re Honky - 2020). There’s a fragility in William’s vocal delivery akin to the vocal stylings of Belle & Sebastian. The verse, tense and awash with acoustic guitars opens up to a chorus brimming with euphoric jangle.

The EP closes with 'In The End'. Echoing the the themes of Remember The Future, here is another anthem examining existential environmental crisis. There is a sense of acceptance in the unified, fuzzed out melody of guitar, vocals and piano.

Cassette release limited to 50 copies.
